Mercedes has announced the Performance Package Plus as an option for the C 63 AMG. Available for both saloon and estate, it includes cosmetic changes, improved brakes and an extra 30bhp.
The power boost comes from modified internal components - taken from the forthcoming Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing apparently - including forged pistons, new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft. The lower inertia of these parts should make the engine feel more responsive. A new engine management system completes the changes while a titanium grey inlet manifold helps identify the modified engine.
Mercedes claims that with the Performance Package Plus the C 63 will do 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the standard car) and 0-124mph in 13.9. Top speed is limited to 155mph as ever.
A high-performance braking system is also fitted. Composite rotors are designed to avoid localised temperature peaks. Red callipers with the AMG logo are fitted.
Cosmetic changes include a carbon fibre boot spoiler for the saloon and a nappa leather and Alcantara steering wheel. Customers can also choose black 'desingo' leather, an option that wraps the dashboard, upper door trims and centre armrest in hide.
No UK market price has been announced but based on the cost in Euros it should be in the region of £6,500. The C 63 AMG Performance Package Plus will go on sale in December.
