McLaren Automotive has launched a new website – www.mclarenautomotive.com - to showcase its MP4-12C supercar. Described as an 'online showroom' it reveals some of the details of the 12C. The site gives the public a chance to get to know the car before it arrives in showrooms in 2011.

The site uses Adobe Flash 10 3D to run the animations and transitions between different sections. It is designed to download quickly and the written content is claimed to put the site at the top of search-engine listings. After having a bit of a look around the site it seems to live up to the claims. The site opens with an 'exploded' view of the MP4-12C, showing a variety of the supercar's components. As well as providing details on a variety of parts and the design process there is a comprehensive image gallery and 'The Insider', a blog apparently penned by the development team.

Prospective customers can also use the site to register their interest in the 12C. More content will be added in the build-up to the car's launch early in 2011.

Meanwhile, check out the video showing the doors opening and closing...
