What is it?
The Zoe Z.E. Concept is Renault's idea of a small four-seat family car - think Mégane with no emissions. The Zoe uses a 95bhp electric motor and can charge its batteries on the move thanks to roof-mounted solar cells. As a hatchback, the Zoe is reckoned to be the Renault electric vehicle that will sell in the biggest numbers when it goes on sale in 2012.
Why's it here?
This is Renault telling the world that it takes electric cars very seriously and is committing to a zero emissions future. The Zoe is also a chance for Renault to demonstrate that it's further down the road to building this type of car than many rivals. The clever roof-mounted charging cell helps the Zoe have a realistic range of 100 miles between full charge-ups, and the cell also uses new technology to keep the cabin at the desired temperature.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Renault is sure to have the crowds flocking to its stand thanks to its electric cars and the Zoe is set to be one of the most popular attractions. Its innovative electric charging roof appeals to the environmentally aware as well as fans of high tech. And any car with scissor front doors and butterfly-opening rear doors is going to cause a stir.
