Peugeot has announced a change to their numbering system, which sees a move away from the current X0X format. The existing system, first seen on the 201 harks bark to 1929 but is no longer sufficient to cope with the variance today's market place demands.
As a result, an extra 0 will now be added for some models starting with the all-new production model, the 1007, based on the Sesame concept shown at the
2002 British Motor Show.
The meaning of the numbers remains the same with the first digit indicating the size of the car and its position in the Peugeot range whilst the third digit indicates the generation of the model. The "double 0" along with designations such as CC and SW will allow Peugeot to accommodate almost any number of future models in their line up.
