Officially, the Lexus LF-A concept is still just that - a concept. Lexus keeps banging on about 'gauging customer interest' (or words to that effect) every time it wheels the two-seat stunner to another
motor show. We all know, however, that it's obviously going to make production - and here's more proof, if it were needed.
Two race-prepared-and-liveried versions will compete in the gruelling 24-hour race at the 'Ring on 23rd May, as 'part of an ongoing R&D process.' It's the second time in succession the LF-A has appeared in the race, which Lexus also claims is 'being developed with an eye on commercialisation,' which is Japanese for 'please stay on the edge of your seat.'
You get the idea. Race mods for the Nurburgring pair include a roll cage, race-spec fuel tank, extensive weight shaving and the full aerodynamic works, all wrapped around a 4.8-litre V10 producing about 500bhp and mounted at the front, but pushed back as far as possible. It's mated to a paddle-shift sequential manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. And you never know, if it does well, Lexus might - just might - put it into production. We doubt it though - where are the signs?
