Hyundai will launch the three-door version of the i20 supermini at the
Geneva Motor Show. Aimed at younger buyers than the five-door model, the three-door is cheaper to buy and has a distinctive new profile.
The three-door i20 uses the same 2,525mm wheelbase as the five-door variant and front and rear styling remains unchanged, but the longer front doors and lack of rear doors emphasise the sculpted flanks while the upswept rear side windows give the three-door a unique look.
There is a modest 10kg weight saving although Hyundai quotes the same performance and economy figures as the five-door model. Claimed performance numbers for the 1.2-litre model, expected to be the most popular, are 0-62mph in 12.9 seconds, a 103mph top speed and 54.3mpg on the combined cycle; carbon dioxide emissions are 124g/km. Two 1.4-litre engines, one petrol and one turbodiesel, are also offered.
Prices for the i20 range start at £8,195 for the 1.2 Classic model. The three-door i20 will reach dealers in April and is available to order now. It will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show from 5th to 15th March.
