Two new Renault coupés will go on sale in January 2009. We've already driven the
Laguna Coupé, which will go on sale at the same time as the new three-door Mégane Coupé. Pricing for the Mégane will start at £14,745 when it goes on sale, with orders being taken from December.
Keen customers will be able to place their order at a Renault dealer from early December - choosing from one of three trim levels. Expression is the entry-level model, which includes 16-inch 'Sport' alloy wheels, front fog lights and keyless entry. Dynamique trim is expected to be the one most customers choose and offers 17-inch alloy wheels with the 2.0TCE 180 petrol engine (16-inch alloys with other engines), automatic lights and wipers, tinted rear windows and a leather steering wheel. Top of the range for now is the Privilège, which comes with 16-inch 'Spirale' alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control and rear parking sensors.
The Privilège's luxurious spec is offered with Renault's first continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The self-shifter is combined with a 138bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine while other power units include 108 and 178bhp petrol motors and three diesel units: two 1.5-litre oil burners with 85 and 105bhp are offered along with a 128bhp 1.9-litre turbodiesel. All Mégane Coupés except the 85bhp diesel get a six-speed manual transmission as standard.
Coupé prices start at £14,475 for the Expression 1.6 110. The Privilège 1.9 dCi 130 is the most expensive model at £19,195. Until the Renaultsport Mégane arrives the £18,145 Dynamique 2.0 TCe 180 is likely to be the most sporting coupé. Options include leather trim for £900, satellite navigation with Bluetooth and an upgraded stereo for £1,600 and a convenience option pack including parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring and heated seats for £900.
Renault dealers will open the order books for the Mégane Coupé in early December with the first cars being delivered in January 2009. Look out for our
first drive of the Mégane coming soon.
