| World debut | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Jaguar XKR-S |
Jaguar's hook with the XKR-S is that it's the fastest XK ever made, and second only to the XJ220 supercar in terms of fast Jaguars. However, the new car is only 19mph faster at the top end than the regular XK and a look down the spec indicates that the driving experience should be the focus of this car, not its top speed.
To that end, Jaguar's engineers have significantly revised the chassis, with new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, as well as a tweak or two to the Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) to enhance agility. Even the steering rack is quicker. Just as significant is the brake upgrade. The Alcon R system features 400mm grooved discs at the front, grabbed by monobloc six-piston callipers, while the rear discs are 350mm in diameter, with four-piston callipers.
Changes have been applied inside and out to identify the XKR-S as unique. A new body kit includes a front splitter, sill extensions, rear spoiler and diffuser. All cars will be finished in 'Ultimate Black' with 20-inch 'Vortex' forged alloy wheels as standard. Only 200 buyers will have the chance to own the XKR-S though, and it will not be sold outside Europe. Jaguar says that the XKR-S goes on sale this summer, but has not yet announced the premium buyers will be expected to pay.
