BMW is set to offer its own aftermarket tuning options as part of its new Performance range of driver-oriented accessories. The new range will be for the 1 and 3 Series models to begin with and will be launched at the
Geneva motor show next week.
The idea is that owners can mix and match their favourite bits rather than buying a complete model as they currently do with the M Sport and SE versions. The Performance range will offer upgrades for the engine, suspension, brakes, wheels and interior. Many of the parts were first seen on the
1 Series Concept tii at the
Tokyo motorshow last year.
Some of the options open to owners include a carbon fibre air intake for six-cylinder cars to give more power and a crisper engine noise. There are also sports exhausts and 17-inch brake disc upgrades with new six-piston callipers finished in BMW Performance yellow.
The suspension packages are also identified by their yellow springs and lower whichever car they are fitted to by 10mm. A carbon fibre front strut brace is another option to improve the car body's rigidity. Larger 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels are on offer, depending on the model of car.
An aero kit with new front spoiler, high gloss 'kidney' grille and sculpted side skirts will also become available. For the interior, sports bucket seats can be ordered, as well as a short-shift kit for the gear lever and a steering wheel with LED change light and display in its upper section. Carbon fibre door panels, dash and centre console are also part of the new Performance range. Prices will be announced after the range is unveiled at the Geneva show.
