| Concept Car Preview | Auto Expo 2008, New Delhi | Suzuki Concept A-Star |

India is an important country for Suzuki, with over 50% of cars on its roads made by the Japanese manufacturer, so it's not surprising that Suzuki has decided to reveal its new Concept A-Star at the Auto Expo 2008 in New Delhi, ahead of the more internationally recognised Detroit Motor Show in January. Designed as the fifth part of its 'world strategic' model line-up that includes the Splash and SX4, the latest concept is set to spearhead a long term growth strategy based on small and versatile, economical and neatly styled passenger vehicles.

Given the Concept A-Star's A-segment market position, where economy carries as much importance as manoeuvrability, the five-door hatch is fitted with a small and light, Euro 5 compliant 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 109g/km of CO2 and so, crucially, will be exempt from proposed city congestion charges. Suzuki has hinted that when the A-Star hits production in October 2008, there could be a diesel alternative for even more miles per pound, though the company is adamant that the petrol model is efficient enough.

When Suzuki finally ships the A-Star from its Manesar plant in India, Europe will become its main port of call as the small car market continues to flourish. However, it is possible that the concept's taut and aggressive looks could have altered slightly - incorporating a more mainstream appearance.
