| New Model | BMW M3 Saloon |
We've only just driven the awesome new Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG and though it's likely to be more expensive than the formidable BMW M3
, it offers buyers the choice of more practical saloon and estate body styles, until now. BMW has just released details of its new four-door M3 and it's coming to the UK next year.
Chances are that there won't be a large price difference between the saloon and coupé models, with buyers choosing according to their needs. The saloon is a fraction slower, but we're talking minute differences. The chassis modifications should ensure that the saloon drives just like the coupé too, though it's interesting to note that BMW has retained a folding rear seat, which is usually not possible with the extra bracing required for a 'M' model.
Though the M3 saloon retains the chunky stance, bonnet bulge, vents and wheelarches of the coupé, buyers will have to do without the super cool carbon fibre roof. That's unlikely to affect the driving experience too much though and we're already salivating at the prospect of pitting the new saloon against its arch enemy from Mercedes-Benz.
Expect the M3 saloon to rear its head at one of the next couple of motorshows
, such as LA or Detroit, with UK customers likely to see the car in dealers from as early as March.
