What's all this about?
This is the Ferrari FXX-K Evo, a car that you can't physically own, can't drive on the road, can only drive at selected events run by the manufacturer and one that costs an absolute fortune. And people will fall over themselves to have the chance to be near it. Well done Ferrari.
It looks like a Hot Wheels concept...
That's the point, well, the concept part at least. The FXX-K is, or was, the ultimate exhibition of Maranello's talents. This is the FXX-K Evo, and as the name suggests it's a further evolution of the hybrid hypercar.
What's in a name?
In this case, not a huge amount mechanically, save for some suspension work. The powertrain is untouched, though with over 1,000hp it's probably as it is. This exercise is totally focused on aerodynamic improvements, hence why it sort of looks like the cars you wish you were able to draw.
That's a big wing.
Yep, and the big dorsal fin is key to improving lateral stability in high-speed corners, just like a Le Mans prototype. There's loads of other little details, like the underbody vortex generators, the reprofiled front intake and the canards and flicks, all of which help the Evo to produce 830kg of downforce at its top speed. That's broadly similar to a GT3 racer. Mad. There's also a different steering wheel design with additional KERS control, and (wow!) a bigger screen for the rear-view camera.
How much?
The old adage of 'if you have to ask' most definitely applies here, but if you're one of the few who already has Corse Clienti access to a 'standard' FXX-K, then the good news is that the Evo upgrades can be retrofitted. There will also be a very limited production run of standalone cars, and ten track outings are planned next season between March and October.
