Is that a new Volkswagen?
Kind of, yes. The three images Volkswagen has released show us hints of the design of its latest concept car, part of the I.D. family, which will make its world debut at the Shanghai motor show this month.
I.D. - that means its electric right?
Indeed it does. This vehicle is the third in the I.D. series, though we don't yet know what it will be called. Volkswagen has, however, confirmed that the new show car takes the form of a four-wheel drive-crossover, with styling that allows it call it a four-door coupe.
Any tech info for it?
Not really, other than Volkswagen's hint at a decent range between battery charges. The German company says that its range is comparable to that of a current petrol-fuelled car. We reckon that means of the order of 300 miles. And much of that could be done with your hands off the steering wheel, as the concept is fully autonomous when its driver wants it to be.
Any chance of production?
Perhaps not exactly as this show car turns out to look, but Volkswagen has clearly stated its intention to put a range of electric cars into mass production by the middle of the next decade and the crossover's appearance in China reveals that the line-up will feature many different body styles. We'll see the finished article on April 18.
