What's all this about?
Renault is ramping up its Renault Sport outfit. Which can only be good news.
Are we going to get a slew of new road cars?
Possibly, although for now what has been clarified is the competition side of things. Renault Sport Racing will control the new Renault Sport Formula One Team, Renault e.dams (its Formula E outfit), the Renault Sport R.S.01 Trophy and all other customer racing and rallying programmes. RSR will be split between Enstone, here in the UK, and the headquarters in Viry-Châtillon, France.
Is there another side to the company for the road-going products, then?
Yes, Renault Sport Cars. An evolution of Renault Sport Technologies, this will continue to build the hottest RS models and also the 'warm' variants, like the recently launched Mégane GT.
Who's going to be behind the RS F1 Team?
New appointments include Bob Bell as Chief Technical Officer, Nick Chester as Chassis Technical Director and Rémi Taffin as Engine Technical Director. Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer will be the drivers for the 2016 season, with Esteban Ocon as the reserve. The F1 car will have a UK-built and developed chassis (the R.S.16) with the R.E.16 engine coming from Viry-Châtillon.
