What's all this about?
Fancy a Range Rover Evoque HSE Dynamic with a fiery red-and-black design theme? Of course you do. So good news is headed your way, in the form of the limited-order Ember special edition.
Limited order? What does that mean?
Erm... it means ordering is limited. The Evoque Ember will only be available to buy for three months in summer, with deliveries commencing in September.
Right, I see. So what do I get for my money?
Well, let's talk cash for a moment. HSE Dynamic currently sits midway up a five-strong ladder of Evoque trim levels, and you can have it with either the 180hp diesel (manual or auto) or the 240hp petrol (auto only). Prices start at £40,900 for the manual diesel and rise to £43,400 for the petrol. Which kind of makes the £47,200 entry price for the Ember look pretty bloody steep.
How so?
You don't actually get a lot extra for your money beyond styling flourishes and accoutrements. Oh, don't get us wrong, the Evoque Ember looks pretty nice, what with its Santorini Black bodywork contrasted by a Firenze Red roof and further details, while inside the seats get Pimento Red stitching and the floor mats are red and black.
Is that it?
Not quite, as a Black Pack on the outside includes Satin Black 20-inch alloys, Dynamic Black exhaust finishers, a Dynamic Narvik front grille and smoked lamp clusters fore and aft. The 'Range Rover' legend on the bonnet goes from silver to Narvik Black, while the 'Evoque' boot badging is rendered in black with a silver surround.
And...?
No, that really is all we've got.
Seriously?! That's a lot of money for a styling piece, isn't it?
Yes, but we don't doubt it will sell out rapidly. You might even see Evoque Embers commanding hot (sorry...) premiums on the used market in years to come.
OK, has anything else changed in the Evoque line-up?
Like all 2017MY Evoques, the Ember gets the latest generation InControl Touch Pro infotainment software with a 10.2-inch 'pinch and swipe' tablet touchscreen, while SE Tech models now come with 12-way powered seats and Automatic High Beam Assist as standard; prices for that grade start at £33,000. Also on offer is a Graphite Design Pack (£2,125) on the top-spec Autobiography cars, which clothes unique 20-inch wheels in Satin Technical Grey, makes the Dynamic grille Narvik Black with a Satin Dorchester Grey surround, repeats the Dorchester hue on the towing eye covers, and adds a black contrast roof, door mirror caps, exhaust finishers and bonnet and tailgate lettering, along with darker light clusters. Rather like the Ember spec, then, but grey/black instead of Firenze Red. And not £6,300, either.
Anything else?
Four new colours for the Evoque's bodywork bring the palette up to 18 options. The newcomers are Aruba, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Silicon Silver.
