What's all this then?
Volvo is updating its V40 hatchback for the 2016 model year and you'll be pretty easily able to spot it thanks to the new 'Thor's Hammer' headlights, lifted from the XC90 SUV, which give the V40, we think, a bit more of a distinctive face.
There aren't many mechanical changes in this update, bar a tweak to the 2.0-litre D2 diesel engine, which now means that, no matter what equipment you add or which wheels you pick, it'll still have the same 89g/km CO2 figure.
Other than that, it's just the usual changes to the bumpers, lights, grille and badge, plus some interior updates that sees a new seat material and new trim options including Milled Aluminium, Black Grid Aluminium and Stealth Aluminium. The equipment line-ups have been changed too, so that you can now choose from Momentum, Inscription, R-Design and Cross Country models and there are some new paint choices as well.
There are also some connectivity upgrades for the Volvo On Call smartphone app, including a new 'Flic' button - a one-touch switch for which you can pick the function - locking and unlocking the car, for instance.
And the official word?
"The V40 is the best-selling Volvo model in the UK, making it a vital car for the company. With the updates for Model Year 2017, we're making this already very successful model even more attractive to customers," said Nick Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK.
