What's all this about?
It's the Infiniti QX30, a 'premium active crossover' that's not hugely dissimilar to the Q30 hatchback we drove just a few short weeks ago.
OK, tell me more about the technical aspects.
Um... we can't at this stage, as - despite the car being revealed simultaneously at the 2015 editions of the Los Angeles and Guangzhou international motor shows - Infiniti is keeping the oily bits under wraps for now. It does say the QX30 will have an intelligent all-wheel drive system, which is fitted to some models of Q30, and that it rides even higher than the C-segment premium five-door. Expect it to use much the same engines as the Q30, then, when it goes on sale in the middle of next year.
Is there anything else Infiniti says about the QX30?
Well, it's supposed to be another weapon in the brand's fight to drastically improve its modest sales, as both it and the Q30 compete in highly lucrative sectors of the automotive market. The company is having a record year of sales globally in 2015 anyway, so the future looks brighter for Nissan's luxury arm, and Infiniti's president Roland Krueger added: "The QX30 active crossover is joining our new premium compact family at the right time and will broaden our offer to new customers around the world. With our recent sales successes and record growth, the current product offensive will further strengthen Infiniti's global market position."
