What's all this about?
Skoda has crafted some extra luggage space for the back of its all-new Superb, creating one giant estate car in the process.
How big are we talking?
Try a ginormous 1,950 litres with the rear seats folded down for size. Which makes this thing about as capacious as a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van (kidding, of course). Still, it is class-leading on this score, as is a 660-litre boot with the seats up.
Do the passengers benefit from lots of space too?
They sure do, as some of the MQB-derived Superb Estate's dimensions have grown in comparison to its predecessor. Like the wheelbase, stretched by 80mm to 2,841mm, or the front and rear track widths, now at 1,584- and 1,572mm respectively. This leads to more headroom, more elbow room and much more knee room than you'd find in competitor cars.
The styling is nice, isn't it?
Yes, like the hatchback this new Superb Estate adds a bit of visual allure to its 'tons of space, tons of kit, cheap-ish list price' formula, and it looks wonderful despite its physical size.
How about the engines?
No specific details but expect the same raft of EU6-compliant diesel and petrol motors found in the Superb hatch. Dynamic Chassis Control will be standard fit, as will various comfort and driver assistance technologies, as well as SmartLink - allowing the Skoda's on-board infotainment software to talk with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies.
What's the price and when can I order?
No word on the former yet, but order books in the UK open in June ahead of the car's debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Expect the first cars to appear on the roads well into quarter four of this year.
