If you're a fan of cool, high-tech gadgets, then Volkswagen's new app for the Apple Watch is definitely for you. Allowing you to open your car through the watch, you can kiss goodbye to the days of struggling to find your keys. Of course there is one snag - it can only be used to open Volkswagen cars (no surprise there!). However, it has managed to set a benchmark for other manufacturers to follow.
More than a simple opening mechanism
As if it wasn't cool enough that you can open your car with the Apple Watch, the company has also added an abundance of other features. As featured in The Independent, users will also be able to find their car and control its air conditioning via the watch. These features are already available via the Car-Net service that the company launched last year. However, they have now been optimised to be used alongside Apple's new sought-after device.
The location feature is by far one of the most useful. How many times have you forgotten where you've parked? Now thanks to this app you won't have to walk aimlessly up and down trying to find he car.
Acting as a secret spy
Another great feature of the app is the ability to send driving reports when you're not in the vehicle. So if you were to lend your car to your children, for example, you can see exactly how they drive it while you aren't there. Choose to receive speeding notifications and find out if the car has been taken anywhere it shouldn't.
Other impressive gadgets
Of course, this new Smart Watch app is just one of many innovations in the automotive industry. Technology has changed practically every aspect of the industry; from the way we learn to drive and pick up the rules of the road to the way we shop for our cars and the technology that we can use within them.
There are a lot of different gadgets you can invest in these days to make your journey more enjoyable. The Register has a list of just some of the top gadgets currently available on the market. From breathalysers to 4G Hotspots, there are all kinds of useful tools you can invest in. Some are even designed with safety in mind. If you look at smartphone apps, you'll find there are plenty that have been designed to improve the driving experience.
The introduction of this new app will no doubt cause ripples of excitement for Volkswagen drivers. Being able to open your car via your watch is very James Bond! Why not take a look at other cool gadgets available on the market? You might just be surprised by what else is on offer...
