Holy bright coloured BMW X4 Batman!
Well, it is actually a Mercedes-Benz but yes the colour is a little retina searing.
Crazy talk, I know an X4 when I see one.
I can assure you this is a Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé to be exact, which will be revealed to the world at the Shanghai Motor Show this coming week. Perhaps your confusion derives from the fact that this is Stuttgart's rival for the X4, the little brother to the GLE Coupé - itself a rival for the BMW X6.
So is this the finished product?
It is a concept but one that is described as 'near-production', so bar a few minor tweaks this is what the Coupé version of the GLC will look like when it arrives later this year.
Wait, there are two GLCs?
Yes the GLC, or the vehicle that used to be known as the GLK, will be offered in a conventional SUV body style and this SUV-cum-coupé body gets sportier looks such as a twin-slat grille, a power bulge for the bonnet and extrovert exhaust pipes out the back. Being a concept this one will roll into the Shanghai Motor Show on 21-inch alloys, but you will likely be able to order less bone crunching rims when it makes production.
So is it powered by nitro-glycerine of something 'concepty'?
It's not actually. With this concept being 'near production' the powertrain is surprising conventional: a 367hp bi-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine mated to a nine-speed Gtronic transmission and Merc's 4Matic all-wheel drive system. No performance figures have been provided, but it'll not be a slouch.
