What's this all about?

Renault has turned up the boost for the latest Clio Renaultsport at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show; it's called the Clip Renaultsport 220 Trophy EDC. There's more power, the promise of a sharper driving experience and exclusive styling touches for this special edition model. A limited quantity of Trophy models will be produced, each one individually numbered and it is due to arrive this summer with prices to be announced closer to the launch date.

What's been done to it?

The engine has been fitted with a larger turbo, free-flowing air intake and less restrictive exhaust, which incorporates a new Euro 6 friendly catalytic converter. Maximum power is 220hp while peak torque is increased to 260Nm with a 'Torque Boost' function in fourth and fifth giving an extra 20Nm. Renault has also raised the red line from 6,500- to 6,800rpm. Despite the extra performance, CO2 emissions have reduced by 6g/km to 138g/km, dropping the Clio down a VED band.

Drive goes through an updated EDC transmission with faster shift times and reduced travel for the steering wheel paddles. New software calibration and the raised engine rev limit allow earlier downshifts and Sport mode is said to allow gearchange patterns that are more reactive to driving style. The three-mode R.S. Drive system allows the driver to choose between Normal, Sport and Race modes for the transmission.

Chassis changes include shorter, stiffer springs and firmer dampers. The steering rack has been replaced with a quicker item for sharper direction changes too. Finally, the new Clio Renaultsport rides on 205/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres.

How can you spot it?

Those tyres are fitted to new, 18-inch 'Radical' alloy wheels and there is 'Trophy' badging on the front blade and door mouldings. A new colour scheme, Frost White, has been added to the range with a matt finish for the body and gloss black for the roof and rear spoiler. Other colours are Glacier White, Diamond Black, Flame Red and Liquid Yellow.

Inside, each example gets individually numbered doorsills, an embossed leather steering wheel and the 'Trophy' interior pack (heated leather sports seats and lots of carbon-fibre-look trim). An optional extra is the Renaultsport Monitor on-board telemetry system.
