SEAT has wasted little time in producing the Altea FR from the prototype version first seen at the
Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005. It is the first of the new generation of SEAT models to sign up to the evocative FR (Formula Racing) stable, joining the Ibiza and the Leon. The Altea FR also introduces SEAT's most powerful diesel engine yet to an upgraded chassis and fresh styling to create its dynamic Multi Purpose Vehicle.
Images of the SEAT Altea FR show a vehicle that is high on looks without compromising practicality. Sculpted sweeping lines, high waistline and pronounced wheel arches create a distinctive look. A high roofline that tracks all the way to the rear together with the sloping front end results in a practical interior with a muscular poise. Firmer and lowered springs and uprated anti-roll bars allow the car to sit noticeably lower allowing more aggressive cornering. Uprated brakes, both front and rear, should also allow you to drop the anchors that little bit later.
Technology advancements under the bonnet create a powerplant that boasts generous power without compromising fuel efficiency and emissions. SEAT makes this possible with its new "Piezo pump" fuel injection system allowing 168bhp to be harnessed from its 2-litre TDI engine. This system replaces conventional diesel fuel systems with a fuel pump designated to each cylinder running directly from the camshaft. This design allows much quicker and accurate fuel delivery and hence, a clean and efficient combustion process; proving high power output and fuel efficiency is not mutually exclusive.
SEAT adds a vehicle to the market that doesn't just fit comfortably in one genre. The Altea FR is an MPV, efficient with clean emissions, but also a sporty hatchback with a powertrain to match.
