Snippet: An even more hardcore MG with an even higher price tag - 2004 MG Xpower SV-R
MG released pictures of the new XPower SV-R this week, resplendent in startling 'Orange Fire' paintwork and carbon fibre side air vents. The SV-R is biased towards the (presumably quite rich) trackday enthusiast, with lowered double wishbone suspension and 385bhp from its 5.0-litre V8. The XPower SV-R is well-equipped too, though thankfully has a weight saving carbon fibre body shell to compensate... Prices for the SV-R start from £83,000.

Snippet: Rolls-Royce convertible gets the green light - 2007 Rolls-Royce Convertible
It has been officially confirmed that the Rolls-Royce 100EX concept car shown at the 2004 Geneva Show previews a new convertible production car to be built at Goodwood. Though smaller than the gargantuan concept, the new 2-door, 4-seater will be based on the aluminium spaceframe under the skin of the Phantom, and will share its 6.75-litre V12 engine. Surprisingly, we won't see the car until 2007.

Even the most discerning car hack struggles to tell where a Mercedes SLK ends and a Chrysler Crossfire begins.

Review: Kia Picanto review - 2004 Kia Picanto (1.0 GS)
You may not remember the last super-mini from Kia; it was a previous generation Mazda 121 re-badged as the Kia Pride. Believe me when I tell you that its owners were more proud of the algae living in their ponds. The Pride was not a good car. Kia still makes value for money cars, but no longer relies on Japanese manufacturers' cast offs.

Review: VW Golf GT FSI review - 2004 Volkswagen Golf (GT FSI 5-door)
As befits the 'car of the people' tag, the Golf has been VW's bread and butter ever since the launch of the iconic original in 1976. The marketplace has changed drastically since then, and so has the Golf. The fifth generation Golf reviewed here is unrecognisable from the pert and compact original, yet it is as important as ever to Volkswagen's financial security.

Review: Carrera GT driven to the limit - 2004 Porsche Carrera GT
Imagine you've driven 165mph in a Volkswagen Phaeton W12 on a derestricted German autobahn. Now imagine you're driving a Porsche Carrera GT on a three-lane American highway with no traffic, one mile visibility and perfect weather. Do you put the hammer down?
