VICTORY, PODIUMS AND POINTS FOR REDSTONE TEAM HONDA AT SILVERSTONE: ROUNDS 11 &12 OF BTCC

Redstone Team Honda delivered a warning shot to its rivals in the 2000 Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship with a strong performance at Silverstone circuit today (June 11). James Thompson stormed to his first race victory of the season in the 'Sprint' race with team mate, Tom Kristensen joining him on the rostrum in third. Gabriele Tarquini in the third Redstone Team Honda Accord finished on the rostrum in the longer 'Feature' race.

In the 15 lap 'Sprint' race, (Round 11), Italian driver, Gabriele Tarquini stormed into second from his second row grid position and took the lead in the second lap. Tarquini was looking a likely contender for his second win of the season, when he spun on oil at the first corner of the third lap. His Redstone Team Honda team mate, James Thompson went on to take victory over the Ford of Anthony Reid and the Honda Accord of fellow Redstone Team Honda driver, Tom Kristensen.

"I'm delighted with this result," said James. "It's nice to be winning again especially as we had some problems in testing. In fact the qualifying session yesterday morning felt more like a test session and we had a lot of work to do for the race today. I had a pretty poor start, but in the event that was OK as I kept out of the 'bumper cars' at the front in the first couple of laps."

Tom Kristensen who took his first BTCC win two weeks ago at Oulton Park was delighted to be back on the rostrum again today with his third in the 'Sprint'.

"The car was good despite the 40kg 'success ballast'," said the Danish driver. "It's great to be back on the rostrum again today."

Gabriele Tarquini who looked in line for a win in the 'Sprint' before his spin, was delighted to put on a strong performance in the 'Feature' race, especially as he started his race from the back of the grid for a ride height infringement.

"That was an action-packed race," said Tarquini. "I am very happy with this result. I started from the back of the grid and really enjoyed myself!"

Gabriele's team mates, James Thompson and Tom Kristensen finished fifth and seventh consecutively in the 'Feature'.

While the Redstone Team Honda trio were flying the Honda flag at Silverstone, Peter Kox was also winning in the Honda Accord at Monza. The talented Dutch driver finished 1st and 2nd today in the Euro STC Championship at the Italian track and is now leading the Championship.

The next round of the BTCC is at Croft Circuit in two weeks time, (June 24/25). Peter Kox will be in action again at the Hungaroring in Hungary on July 2.
